Rocket Lab wins another defense-related space contract

Rocket Lab has gained an $816 million contract — its largest up to now — with the U.S. Area Growth Company as the corporate continues to diversify past its “rocket firm” label.

The corporate stated Friday that its subsidiary, Rocket Lab USA, was awarded a main contract by the Area Growth Company (SDA) to design and manufacture 18 satellites. The satellites might be outfitted with superior missile warning, monitoring, and protection sensors for the company’s Monitoring Layer Tranche 3 program.

This contract is separate from an present $515 million award to ship satellites for the SDA’s Transport Layer-Beta Tranche 2 program. That program goals to offer a satellite tv for pc communications community in low Earth orbit that sends encrypted, low-latency information to the army.

Collectively, Rocket Lab has SDA contracts valued at greater than $1.3 billion.
