Earlier in July, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick gave chipmakers like Nvidia the green light to start selling certain AI chips in China again, however his division is alleged to be holding issues up.
Based on reporting from Reuters, Nvidia has but to obtain a license to promote its H20 AI chips.
The U.S. Division of Commerce is presently sitting on a backlog of licensing purposes as a consequence of turmoil throughout the division, largely due to a lack of workers and a breakdown in communications with the trade, per Reuters.
This hold-up comes as national security experts are urging the Trump administration to limit Nvidia from promoting its H20 AI chips to China on nationwide safety grounds.
